Workshops and on-line sessions are developed in the areas I am qualified and comfortable in delivering. These include understanding cultural environments & natural resource use, cultural inclusion & Aboriginal policy development, Dharawal Language revival and use, and living as a traditional custodian with joint management on Aboriginal Land.
Detailed program sessions include:
1. Traditional and contemporary Aboriginal use of natural resources:
This activity is best carried out in the field however can be suited to a classroom environment.
This program is designed to:
- Showcase the diverse environmental ecosystems across Australia and how unique each ecosystems natural resources are to the Aboriginal people of that region.
- Teach people about Australia's unique Aboriginal bush foods and medicines found on the South East Coast of Australia.
- Showcase the continuation of cultural practices related to Caring for Country and how these practices are continued today within their unique environments.
- Showcase the natural resources used today by Aboriginal people of South East Australia.
- Encourages people to respect the environment.
- Provide a different way of seeing the Australian landscape.
2. Cultural inclusion & policy development:
This program is a cultural awareness program which aims to:
- Improve Aboriginal cultural understanding within your workplace, regarding cultural diversity and Aboriginal practice.
- Provide an understanding to your organisation of local Aboriginal communities and their protocols.
- Develop workplace policies which reflect the identified local protocols.
- Assist organisations develop guidelines to meet outcomes respectfully.
- Provide an understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander people's.
- Identify ways to minimise cultural conflict within your work environment.
This program best suits organisations who deal directly with or employ Aboriginal people's.
In the past this program has been used as an ongoing development and training tool for organisations to support and actively participate in reconciliation.
3. Dharawal Language revival and use:
This program aims to teach the Dharawal language by:
- Showcasing Aboriginal diversity through language across Australia.
- Teaching pronunciation and the Dharawal language in a written form.
- Teaching people the Dharawal language as it is associated with cultural practices, customs and beliefs.
4. Joint management; A historic view of Wreck Bay and the formation of the Booderee National Park as I have experienced it as a Traditional Owner.
This program aims to:
- Provide a brief background into the evolution of the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community.
- Outline what makes Wreck Bay unique.
- Provide an overview of the Jervis Bay Territories Act and how the creation of this legislation has empowered the people of Wreck Bay to achieve excellence.
- Discuss the concept of Joint Management.
- Provide an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of Joint Management.
- Provide an insight into how the community is actively working with The federal Department of Environment, Water Heritage and the Arts to meet cultural outcomes through Joint Management.
