I grew up in Bomaderry NSW, my mother Phyllis Stewart grew up on Wreck Bay and my father on the far south coast. I have connection to the entire Yuin nation, however classify myself as a Waddi-Waddi women from the Shoalhaven.
Although working well with several different artistic mediums, I prefer a mixture of shellwork and weaving. I hold extensive cultural knowledge on weaving plant fibre and the natural environment in which these plants are found, as well as heritage connected to shell gathering. Through this I am able to understand and connect to my strong cultural identity.
From the skills and education I have been provided, I have the ability to transfer knowledge to all who wish to learn.
I aspire to continue to bridge me personal skill gaps to ensure a strong and continuing South Coast Aboriginal culture and identity.
I have done this by ensuring I have passed my knowledge on to my children. I have taught them who they are and where they come from.
I have been able to make this a success through the heritage my people have given me throughout my life.
Over the past few years I have developed and delivered workshops with regards to my identity and culture to a variety of different audiences, some of which include TAFE, schools, universities, the wider public and special interest groups.
