Story: I was born in Nowra NSW in 1958. I am Ngiyampaa / Ngemba Wangaapuwan Aboriginal descent on my mothers side from Cobar, Central Western NSW. I paint Ngiyampaa / Ngemba country in my own way, with my own personal artistic expressions. Sometimes in a very contemporary way and sometimes to interpret and express the old Ngiyampaa Wangaapuwan art style. I incorporate thick textured white lineal lines and rustic textured effects, sometimes aerial, sometimes a landscape perspective. With a combination of Ngiyampaa / Ngemba colours red, yellow, black and white applied in layers by fingers, brush, stick and dabbing leaving a textured surface.

My artist name Punakirri is my personal artistic connection name with my Aboriginal heritage, closely translated as "going back" in Ngiyampaa language. When i paint i am going back to my homelands for inspiration for my own artistic expression and my personal story onto canvas.

My journey back to my Mothers country and my Aboriginal heritage has been a long and personal journey over many years. My interpretation and depiction of the slow moving echidna i incorporate into my work is a symbol for my personal life journey back into my deep personal Aboriginal heritage of my homelands in the Cobar Peneplain.
